President's Message - April 2008

As I write my final President’s Message, I find that USAAEM is at a critical point in its brief history.

We have been successful in many ways over the last year. We have established a quarterly e-newsletter. We have added a medical student representative position to our board of directors that will increase the representation of the medical students in our chapter. Our resident representative, CAPT Ben Baker, is planning an exciting web addition that will make it extremely easy for all USAAEM members to contact the chapter leadership for questions, help, or advice. We continued to excel at partying, as our second annual social event at the AAEM Scientific Assembly was a success.

Our only setback during the last year was the cancellation of the USAAEM preconference course, despite the best efforts of Immediate Past President LTCOL Ben Harrison and Vice-President CDR John Love. It is our hope to create a successful preconference on March 1, 2009, at the next AAEM Scientific Assembly in Phoenix, Arizona. Planning is in progress and we are hoping to secure enough external funding to significantly reduce the cost for USAAEM members.

We are about to enter our third year of existence when the new President takes office in June. The USAAEM board is actively pursuing additional member benefits to add value to the USAAEM membership, including sources of free CME while deployed. We want USAAEM to be beneficial to our members. Please let us know what other benefits would interest you. Also – become actively involved with the USAAEM Chapter.

We thank your for your membership and patience and look forward to a successful year for USAAEM!
